In this research a machine translation system is developed which can translate English sentence(s) into Bangla. It uses the state of the art statistical machine translation approach and neural networks for the translation task. Current version is trained on a large English-Bangla parallel data. Around 4,00,000 parallel sentences have been used as training data and significant more as development data. Apart from basic machine translation approaches, some newest research has been incorporated with the system to enhance the translation quality, namely paraphrase extraction, word embeddings and so on. Our system performs reasonably well compared to the available machine translation tools online. The project is funded by the subproject ‘Development of Multi-Platform Speech & Language Processing Software for Bangla’ (CP-3888) under the 'Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP)' of UGC.
